Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week…..Shoreside Programme

Apart from a stunning programme of Dinghy and Yacht Racing, organised by the sailing clubs that make up the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association, Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week 2008 promises a week of great music and fun from 9-16 August. By popular demand from Falmouth Week party goers, this year's shoreside evening entertainment will be split between two venues, the Events Square and Princess Pavilion, which will allow people more choice.

A program of entertainment from the 9th-16th August is coming back, by popular demand, to the Events Square. This year's spectacular will see the return of all the Falmouth Week favourites alongside some new attractions making it bigger and better than ever before. Expect 70's night with a bit more flare, a Caribbean night cocktail with an extra twist and of course, the return of 80's night. The massive marquee will host a selection of bands and DJs with fancy dress competitions. The fun won't stop there as a timetable of family fun, for those too small for sailing, will be on every day! The kids will be looking forward to Falmouth Week more than you as the fantastic swamp circus entertainments combine morning workshops and afternoon shows for all the family!

Gum & Glue, who brought you Falmouth Bay Events Square Live, and Falmouth Festivals are organising the entertainment and already have some exciting news. A big name headliner is expected to open the week as Pirate FM help to bring the A list to town. This sees the return of Falmouth Bay Events Square Live 2008 to open proceedings on the 9th August 2008. More information on this year's line up can be found below, and more information on Gum & Glue's other events can be found at www.gumandglue.com as well as a contact form for the Falmouth Week Events Square Entertainments.

FALMOUTH MARCHING CARNIVAL Kimberley Park to the Watersports Centre 6.30pmto 7.30pm Tel 01326 211889 Marching Carnival Parade, led by the infamous Falmouth Marine Band, who will launch their new uniform. Participants muster at Kimberley Park, walk through the main town streets and end up at the Watersports Centre.

Free, but with street collection in support of local charities.

This year will be the Band's 20th year of marching at Falmouth Carnival - so expect something of a surprise this year!. Also, all carnival participants will be entitled to a free drink and a free party after the Carnival ends at the Falmouth Watersports Centre.

The Falmouth Marching Carnival was born in 2006 after the original organizers were defeated by the growing insurance demands and red-tape involved in organizing floats. The Falmouth Marine Band was originally formed in 1989 as a one-off attempt to support what was a flagging Falmouth Carnival. It was then, and remains today, a bit of fun. However, once we realized there was a public demand for the marching cacophony, we started collecting money as we marched, and true to this day - every single penny collected by the Falmouth Marine Band has been donated in support of local good causes.

The Band do not support national charities, but try and fill a gap locally, supporting young people and others who may not get any help.

The Marching Carnival maintains the spirit of community involvement for local people, young and not-so-young. There is no application form, no judging, no set themes or classes (anything goes!), and if groups wish to participate we ask them simply to contact our Treasurer (Mike Knutton) on 01326-211889 so we can ensure we have sufficient free drink (one per participant) to hand out at the after-Carnival party at Falmouth Watersports Centre.

The Marching Carnival is supported by Falmouth & Penryn Lions Club who provide essential marshalling help on the day, by Falmouth Police who organize the road closures and direct traffic, by Mark at Falmouth Watersports Centre who provides sponsorship and hosts the Carnival party in the evening, and local Superstores and Pubs who donate the free drinks for everyone.

Most importantly, the Carnival is supported by the good people (young and not-so-young) of Falmouth and Penryn who give up their time to prepare and join in the fun event or as importantly, to come and watch the fun. We are ensuring we maintain a tradition of a Carnival on Falmouth Classics Day. The event is all about the community spirit in Falmouth and the Falmouth Marine Band are very proud and very privileged to have such wonderful support as we try and spread merriment and involve a growing number of local people in our efforts.
