Racing to be filmed

All the race action during the first two days of Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week (August 11-18) will be filmed LIVE by University College Falmouth, thanks to new sponsorship this year from Audi. Wood and Douglas Ltd will then use their latest state of the art equipment to relay the pictures back to the tower at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and spectators will be able to watch the action on the water on a screen from the comfort of the Events Square.

Filming of the sailing first took place at St Mawes, a couple of years ago with one camera used to film the live racing. University College Falmouth's multi-camera operation, led by Media Resources Manager, Alan Barnes and students from the College's media courses, will deliver a much more exciting perspective for 2007, and with up to 350 boats on the water, it promises to be a spectacular sight. The filming will be screened at the Events Square during the regatta week.

Audi will also be sponsoring EireTech to demonstrate their latest Race-Trax Live Positioning Race Management System. Race-Trax will provide each boat's position enabling spectators to become virtual witnesses of the race course live. The trackers will be fitted to one class each day, and on Sunday August 12 it will be the turn of the Falmouth working boats.

The recent declassification of the military tracking solution, Nav-Trax, has enabled its evolution into Race-Trax which utilises, not only, UHF (free to air) but also GPRS and Satcom telemetry providing worldwide tracking at an affordable price. With all tracking information displayed LIVE at the Race- Trax control centre on Pendennis Point and replays available on www.pofsa.co.uk or www.race-trax.com, Port of Falmouth Sailing Association are hoping that this new idea will bring the competition on the water even closer to all the spectators on Pendennis Point. Race-trax also hope to demonstrate the system at each host club prior to the daily prize-giving.

Also new for 2007 is a new class catering for those who do not normally join in racing but would like to give it a try, in a fleet of similar relaxed enthusiasts. This is known variously as PY Cruising or White Sail class and will sail without spinnakers, using the normal cruising rig. Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week is aiming to provide good keen competitive racing in a relaxed atmosphere using a variety of courses during the week followed by enjoyable teas, prize giving, and entertainment at the host club of the day plus a big programme of shoreside events. This year Falmouth Classics are targeting the Contessa 32 fleet and all local and visiting Contessa owners would be most welcome. Why not take part all week!
