Skippers' briefing

The Skipper's Briefing for Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week this year is to be hosted by Falmouth Town Council. In a new initiative the Council offered the use of the Council Chamber for the briefing, which will provide a central and prestigious venue for this key event. Falmouth Art Gallery will be opened especially for a reception following the briefing, sponsored by Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Falmouth Mayor, Mike Varney, and the Chairman of the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association, Mark Osborn, agreed that using the Town Hall would help to create an even closer relationship between the town and the sailing fraternity during this special week. Mark Osborn said: "Hosting the Skipper's Briefing in the Council Chamber is very special, and being able to use the renowned Falmouth Art Gallery for our Skipper's reception will be a terrific chance to show off this wonderful venue to our visitors and local skippers, particularly as there will be some major Cornish artists' work on display."

The briefing is on Saturday 11 August, which will allow skippers and crews to also enjoy the Marching Carnival which sets off from Kimberley Park at 6.30pm, parading through the town to Events Square that evening.

Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week begins on Saturday August 11 with a day full of spectacle - Falmouth Classics Regatta - when Carrick Roads and Falmouth Bay will be a magnificent sight with up to 150 traditional sailing craft racing in full view of spectators ashore. Evening entertainment for the week will get underway at the new live music venue at the Princess Pavilion, with T.Rextasy - the world's only and officially acclaimed definitive tribute band to Marc Bolan and T. Rex.

The sailing action continues throughout the week with a different sailing club around the Carrick Roads hosting the days sailing, and the live evening entertainment line-up continues with a week-long party for Falmouth. The bands will provide something for everyone to enjoy with big name acts and traditional party nights continuing to feature at the heart of the sailing week.

"The whole town is really supporting Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week this year" commented David Lang, Chairman of the Shoreside organising committee "There is even more choice of activities and entertainment on offer this year for people to enjoy what Falmouth Week has to offer. Thanks go to our sponsors and supporters, who help us make the event such a success."

Other activities during the week include a continental and farmer's market on The Moor, tours around Port Pendennis Shipyard, fun for all the family at the Maritime Museum, children's art workshops at Falmouth Art Gallery, café culture music and children's entertainment at Events Square, an afternoon Garden Party at the Princess Pavilion and so much more.
