This year's Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week will provide that little bit "something different" from the other major sailing events.
In August, Cornwall is at the peak of the tourist season and many of the competitors will be combining their week's racing with their annual family holiday.
Falmouth has some of the best sailing waters in the UK although there is plenty for those not wishing to go afloat. The Falmouth Town Shoreside Committee will be organising events throughout the town during the daytime culminating in a varied programme of evening entertainment.
The week starts with Falmouth Classics on Saturday August 11. With a fleet of over 150 of our favourite "oldies" this event is a spectacular sight for both the competitors and the many spectators who throng both Pendennis and St Mawes Castles to watch the racing.
Falmouth Week Regatta (the serious but fun racing) starts on Sunday August 12.
This is a series of six races each hosted by a different Sailing Club for the day. Sunday sees the bigger boats that race in the bay all week going to Helford River Sailing Club. The Carrick Fleets remain in the Carrick Roads that day and return for tea in Falmouth.
The event then goes into a fixed pattern, Mylor Yacht Club on Monday, Restronguet Sailing Club Tuesday, Flushing Sailing Club Wednesday, Thursday St Mawes Sailing Club and finally Royal Cornwall Yacht Club at Falmouth on Friday August 17, who will host the end of Regatta Prizegiving.
Saturday, August 18 is Falmouth Town Committee's day to hold the Champagne Day racing. Although this will require a separate entry, this Saturday is a traditional part of the whole week.
There will be Champagne prizes for each class but no dinghy racing on this day.
Many of the local Class Associations will be including this Saturday with Falmouth Week Regatta for their own Class trophies.
Whilst all the bigger boats are having their fun, the dinghy owners will be getting up earlier for the Falmouth Dinghy Week, August 12th-17. This event is also very much part of Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week.
Restronguet Sailing Club, will be managing the event.
Chairman of Port of Falmouth Sailing Association (PoFSA) this year is Mark Osborn. PoFSA is the organising committee for the Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week This year entries will be online and a website by PoFSA will be updated regularly.
