FALMOUTH CLASSICS Saturday 9th August - A Celebration of Sail Inspired by the original French festivals, Falmouth Classics has been providing fun and spectacle for nearly 20 years, and now kicks off Falmouth Week in style. There is no shortage of entries, as Falmouth is renowned as home to a larger proportion of traditional boats than most ports, many of them built locally. Come and join these magnificent yachts, large and small, very old and not so old.

Apart from a stunning programme of Dinghy and Yacht Racing, organised by the sailing clubs that make up the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association, Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week 2008 promises a week of great music and fun from 9-16 August. By popular demand from Falmouth Week party goers, this year's shoreside evening entertainment will be split between two venues, the Events Square and Princess Pavilion, which will allow people more choice.

"This year is going to be the best yet" - that is the message from the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association and the Shoreside Committee in charge of organising Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week, August 9-16. Preparations for events and activities on the water and ashore are well advanced and bigger than ever.

Changes to Falmouth Week on the cards

Changes in the shoreside entertainment for Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week next year are likely to be made. But no details are expected to be announced until a full "wash-up" meeting has been held involving all parties involved, including the Events Square management team, Carrick council, Falmouth town council and the Falmouth town centre manager together with the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association.

Classics a success

Falmouth Week 2007 got off to a cracking start on Saturday with the traditional Classics. The popular introduction of the regatta week saw hundreds of craft on the water from dinghies to working boats and from small yachts to ocean going vessels and although not a serious race, there was more than a competitive spirit among the crews taking part.

Tall Ships programme takes shape

The programme for the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta, which will take place in Falmouth from the September 10-13 next year, is beginning to take shape thanks to the support of its official partners.

Racing to be filmed

All the race action during the first two days of Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week (August 11-18) will be filmed LIVE by University College Falmouth, thanks to new sponsorship this year from Audi. Wood and Douglas Ltd will then use their latest state of the art equipment to relay the pictures back to the tower at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and spectators will be able to watch the action on the water on a screen from the comfort of the Events Square.

Skippers' briefing

The Skipper's Briefing for Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week this year is to be hosted by Falmouth Town Council. In a new initiative the Council offered the use of the Council Chamber for the briefing, which will provide a central and prestigious venue for this key event. Falmouth Art Gallery will be opened especially for a reception following the briefing, sponsored by Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
