Loe Beach regatta sets tone for season
THE first of the traditional old village regattas off Loe Beach, Feock gave a fine start to the sailing season. The weather on Saturday was kind, the wind fair, but disappointing compared to last year and all on the water had good competitive racing.
The mighty working boats were undoubtedly the most impressive. Skippers and crew alike on a wide variety of boats enjoyed the racing.
The working boats Ferris Cup was won by Andrew Ferris in Florence. The working boats handicap John Bridger Trophy' was won by Lelia, skippered by Adam Bird. David and Emma Mantle carried away the St Mawes One Design Vage Trophy' in Robin Hood. The Cameron Cup for PY1060 and below was taken by P Samuel's Jethro. The Sumbeam Oyster with Bomber helming came in first of that illustrious class. The Shrimps, Perkins Cup, was secured by Mark Osborne in Boyers.
The Junior Picos Cup was won by James Richardson of the Penryn Sea Cadets, while Rob Trebilcock took the Pico Racer Scout Cup. The PY1061 above, the Sherlock Cup was won by Chris Hoare in Helix, while in the dinghies PY1099 below, the Ffrench Constant Cup was prized by Buzz Bank's Laser. The dinghies PY1100 Scott Cup went to Sam Webb's Laser. The Ajax and fixed keelboats Isaac Rose Bowl was secured by Nick Woodley.
Afterwards, the usual splendid teas were provided overlooking the many boats still sailing. Later still, the Loe Beach Café seating was packed to overflowing with a very large gathering of families to enjoy the fare and music from the local band, Me and the Devil', who were back by popular request. All space by the adjoining Loe Beach Watersports Centre was filled with tables and chairs for those enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.
