Win a Dame Ellen jacket call to Falmouth residents


The Ellen MacArthur Trust is hoping Falmouth residents will support the charity she has set up to help young sailors.

The yachtswoman who received a tumultuous welcome in Falmouth when she completed her record sailing adventure in March 2005 is giving away an exclusive Musto jacket signed by her.

The give-away is in conjunction with The Ellen MacArthur Trust Skandia Round Britain Voyage of Discovery which is currently making its way around the coast of Britain and due to arrive in Falmouth on Sunday August 30.

The Ellen MacArthur Trust Skandia Round Britain Voyage involves 85 young people in recovery from cancer, sailing the 48 foot yacht Scarlet Oyster the 2000 nautical miles around Britain across 17 legs on a four month voyage .

It is stopping at 17 ports around Great Britain including; Brighton, Dover, London, Ipswich, Hull, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow, Belfast, Douglas, Liverpool, Cardiff, Torquay and Southampton finishing in Cowes on September 12.

All those wanting to enter the competition have to do to win the prize is buy a mile of the Voyage by donating £10 to the Trust.

Every donation made will be entered into a draw to win a jacket.

The Ellen MacArthur Trust was set up in 2003 and takes young people aged between eight-18 sailing to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illness. All donations to ‘buy a mile’ will go to the Trust to help fund future projects.

Dame Ellen is due at the National Maritime Centre on September 1. Due to the huge demand for tickets, she agreed to give a second talk about her Round Britain Voyage of Discovery raising funds for the Trust.
