Cornwall Schools Regatta

Tracey Boyne of Mylor Sailing School and Truro College organised the Schools Regatta event which took place last Wednesday at Restronguet Sailing Club in Mylor. The event was a great success due to a lot of support from Truro College and the weather was a beautiful sunny day with light winds mainly from the East. It got a bit light in the second race but then the wind changed direction and picked up again.

There was a fantastic turnout of 81 boats and over 120 pupils competing from Cape Cornwall, Falmouth School, Fowey Community College, Helston School, Humphry Davy School, King Charles School, Looe School, Mounts Bay School, Penair School, Penryn College, Roseland School, St. Ives Schools, St. Mawes School, Richard Lander, Truro Prep School, Truro School and Wadebridge School This is an annual event which has been running since the 1960s and has had a few different organisers over the years.

There were many volunteers and helpers which helped make the day run smoothly, these included the race officers, Craig Brown from Mylor Sailing School, Mark Belshaw from The RYA Onboard Scheme which is a volunteer based scheme to get youngsters into sailing, Truro College who loaned their large fleet of Picos, Liam Hope from Loe Beach Watersports who also loaned Picos and supplied a rescue boat, Bob Warren from Roseland Paddle and Sail for boats and rescue, St.Mawes Sailing Club for boats and rescue, Rob Thurst from Falmouth School of Sailing who loaned some boats plus a rescue craft.

This was all vital help needed to enable the pupils to take part. A big thank you to Restronguet Sailing Club for allowing the use of the facilities to host the event and to Roger Graffy of Mylor Yacht Harbour for supplying free car parking to everyone for the day.
