Royal Cornwall second series results

The mist and a fog bank rolled away and the sun appeared for the last race of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club 2nd Series which would decide the overall result in most Classes. The Race Committee did exceedingly well to set courses for the six Classes, liasing with the Harbour Launch about a large ship movement scheduled towards the end of racing. The timing of some legs of the course were critical in order to keep clear.

The St.Mawes OD race result was very close as J & R Dunn in Kelpie covered Dave Ryeng in Rainbow. A Stevenson's Rebel only managed third but this was sufficient to tie on Points with Rainbow. However, with a tie, the overall result for the Class is decided on the result of the last race in the Series which gave it to Rainbow. The Points total allows the worst race in a Series not to be counted.

In two Classes, the result was decided last week as the Series winners could not be beaten. In the Sunbeams, Jeff Martin in Saucy Sally turned out for the race and gained another win and had the best points total by far with five 1st's. In the J24's, Jethro did not sail and counted four 1st's and one second. Barney Peters in Just Wind won the race to clinch second overall in the Series.

In the largest Class, the IRC Yachts, Martin Eddy in Bluenose took a commanding lead which he stretched away to win the race comfortably. Due to some poor races in the Series, this was insufficient to put him in contention. John Murrell's Macavity was in the Series lead before the race and a fourth place was sufficient to retain this. Meanwhile, J & V Cunliffe in Supersonic were having a tussle with Peter Knight in Pink Fizz for second overall. Some good tacks kept Supersonic up with Per Elisa in conditions which favoured the latter and Pink Fizz had to settle for 3rd.. This gave Supersonic second overall.

Charlie Choak's Minx won the Class E Yachts race and this was sufficient to come 2nd overall in the Series by one point behind J.Goddard in Popincoota with the long serving Jemalda of Alan Muirhead 3rd.

D Healy's Flying Circus easily won the Mulitihull Series.
