Olympic display unveiled at Falmouth museum
 |
| Ian Wilson with the display he developed. |
A new Olympic display has been unveiled at Falmouth's Maritime Museum.
The interactive information point gives visitors the chance to keep track of everything happening on the water in Beijing.
The touch screen display was designed by museum volunteer Ian Wilson.
Volunteers at the museum assist with everything from greeting visitors and helping them find their way around to restoring boats, or in this case developing a new exhibit.
Mr Wilson said: "I became a volunteer at the museum because of my love of sailing but, with my background in IT, it's been great to put my skills to good use developing this interactive display.
"Everyone at the museum will be keeping a close eye on events in Beijing and keeping our fingers crossed for Ben Ainslie in the Finn class!"
Visitors can also see the Olympic gold medal winning boats belonging to Britain's greatest sailing Olympians.
These include Superdoucious, the Flying Dutchman in which Rodney Pattisson and his crew Iain Macdonald-Smith won Olympic gold in Mexico in 1968, winning five races out of six and finishing second in the other - an Olympic record.
There is also Rita, the Laser in which Ben Ainslie sailed to victory during his legendary battle against his Brazilian rival Robert Sheidt, at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Ben went on to follow this with gold at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
The Olympic exhibit is on display until September 26 and will cover all the action on the water at both the Olympic and Paralympics games.
