Danny Duncan who runs Elemental Watersports Centre at Swanpool beach in Falmouth, currently has three current watersports students from Falmouth Marine School working for him.

They are running the sailing, windsurfing and raft-building courses for children from local schools.

The students, Tom Blakemore, Mathew Gigg and James Arrow who are all currently studying watersports courses at Falmouth Marine School, are all doing their summer work placements at Elemental. Their fellow students are at placements at centres around Cornwall, Devon and Europe. The placements, which are an essential part of the watersports courses at Falmouth Marine School, give students the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge gained throughout their studies to a real working environment.

Steve Bowens, Course Area Manager, Leisure & Watersports at Falmouth Marine School visited the students at Swanpool to conduct assessments and met with Danny Duncan to see how they were getting on.

Danny said: "I do not consider these guys to be work experience; they are of a quality and work ethic, which is easily equivalent to my full-time staff. I have been blown away by their professional attitude. They are a credit to themselves and the college."

Danny continued: "I am actively recruiting my staff from Falmouth Marine School as I know what I am getting. Currently my Chief Instructor as well as four full-time instructional staff are all from the College."

Matt Gigg said: "I am really enjoying teaching watersports, working with the kids and spending the summer on the beach and in the water. It's lovely at Swanpool and the groups are really good fun. Tom and I have both been offered full-time work for the rest of the summer."

Steve Bowens said: "It is fantastic to watch the guys in action - teaching groups. They are introducing so many more new people to watersports in a fun and safe way and it is very satisfying to watch."
