FALMOUTH CLASSICS
Saturday 9th August - A Celebration of Sail
Inspired by the original French festivals, Falmouth Classics has been providing fun and spectacle for nearly 20 years, and now kicks off Falmouth Week in style. There is no shortage of entries, as Falmouth is renowned as home to a larger proportion of traditional boats than most ports, many of them built locally. Come and join these magnificent yachts, large and small, very old and not so old.
FALMOUTH WEEK REGATTA
Sunday 10th - Friday 15th August
The main regatta is a series of races over 6 days, with courses laid in Falmouth Bay and the Carrick Roads by qualified Race Officers to suit all classes of boat. Expert or beginner - you will be well catered for. HL Falmouth Week Regatta is an ideal venue for smaller Class Associations to hold their championships.
The Falmouth Bay Fleet has classes for multihulls, IRC yachts, Sportsboats, Marieholms, PY yachts and the PY Cruising/white sail class. The PY Cruising class races without spinnakers and is there for the less ultra-competitive and family crews. We are holding a teach-in on Saturday 9th August to outline the basic rules of racing for those new to the sport.
The Carrick Fleet starts in the Carrick Roads but weather permitting will also venture out into the bay. The fleet includes Flying Fifteens, Dragons, International One Designs, Ajaxes, Cornish Shrimpers, Sunbeams, Gaffers, and St Mawes One Designs.
PENDENNIS CUP
Monday 11th - Saturday 16th August
New for 2008 we are hosting a special fleet of large Classic Racing Superyachts, built in the early 1900s and competing for the Pendennis Cup, which will provide a spectacular sight alongside the modern racers and traditional craft.
HL FALMOUTH DINGHY WEEK
Sunday 10th - Friday 15th August
The dinghy racing is based in Mylor at Restronguet Sailing Club (where Ben Ainslie learnt to race). There is ample boat storage and car parking on site for all our visitors. With usually two races each morning this format is ideal for those on family holiday. We can cater for Class Championships as part of the event.
FALMOUTH WEEK CHAMPAGNE DAY
Saturday 16th August
Bubbly and fine silverware to be won for Bay and Carrick boats thanks to Falmouth Town Regatta Committee who organise the day's racing! Weather permitting the largest boats will be given a longer coastal passage.

Port of Falmouth Sailing Association welcomes the opportunity to raise money for FALMOUTH SAIL TRAINING SHIP - HARDIESSE, offering sail training opportunities for local schools and youth groups.
The Falmouth Sail Training Ship is a registered charity and has been in existence since 1948. It is a non profit making facility for local youngsters and is maintained by generous supporters and volunteers.
Our present vessel, "Hardiesse", was built in 1972 and is similar in size and design to the trading vessels common around Cornwall prior to the First World War. She is designed to accommodate 10 trainees plus skipper and experienced mate.
The ship is always under the command of a qualified skipper with Royal Yachting Association Offshore Instructor Certificate. Sailing experience in handling a traditional vessel and R.Y.A. recognised courses are provided to youngsters aged from 12 years and cruises to Brittany are a regular feature in the sailing programme.
"Hardiesse" will be visiting many of the Clubs taking part in Falmouth Week and you will be welcome "onboard".
Any group or organisation representing young people in the age group 12 to 19 years can take advantage of this wonderful facility by contacting: Chris Stone, R.Y.A. Instructor, 9 Frankland Close, Swanvale, Falmouth, Cornwall TR11 4AE Telephone 01326 312146 email rdshardiesse@plus.com or visiting www.falmouth-sail-training-ship.org
Please give generously to the collections to be held at various venues during the week. The money raised will be used to sponsor young people from Falmouth Community College to go on a trip onboard "Hardiesse".
As usual organisers will also be supporting the RNLI as well.
