Artefacts to go on show

Important artefacts from the wreck of HMS Victory, the predecessor of Admiral Nelson’s flagship are to be brought to the surface 300 years after it sank off the Channel Islands.

The American based salvage and exploration company, Odyssey Marine Exploration, found the wreck in 2008. Now according to the Sunday Times the wreck will be handed over to the Maritime Heritage Foundation set up Lord Lingfield, the Tory peer formerly known as Sir Robert Balchin. Odyssey is expected to be given the contract to recover the bronze cannon collection along with a possible cargo of gold coins worth £500 million in today's market, that some experts feel the Victory was carrying when she sank in 1744. Odyssey Explorer the company's top research vessel is a frequent caller at the docks.
