Falmouth to Falmouth via Scotland in a kayak

The epic sea journey of Cornish kayaker James Bonell will end at the Maritime museum in Falmouth on Saturday, September 4.

Back in April, 24 year-old James set out in his kayak on the 2,300 mile journey around the coastline of Great Britain. Along the way he has been raising money for National Association for Colitis and Crohn’s Disease (NACC) and Water Aid.

James says: “When I set out from Falmouth, my sea kayaking experience totalled about 50 miles, in fair conditions, spread over a few calm summer days. Learning about the ways of the sea, weather forecasts, and how to handle such a big boat was all part of a long and steep learning curve. "Over 2000 miles later, I’ve seen some incredibly inspiring natural environments but also paddled through smelly and polluted waters. I’ve been within touching distance of wildlife that I'd only seen on TV, but haven’t seen more common species I'd expected to. "I’ve had my kayak stolen and then been amazed at the unbelievable kindness and generosity of complete strangers. It has been an expedition full of surprises and unforeseen circumstances.

By day, James is an engineer for renewable energy company RES, who gave him a sabbatical from his job to undertake the circumnavigation challenge, and have been the headline sponsor for his expedition.

James will be arriving back at the Museum on Saturday, September 4 and his long suffering kayak will go on display at the Maritime Museum until the end of October.
