A new water based taxi company has been set up by Mark Bower operating out of St Mawes.
St Mawes Sit–on Kayaks was formed from Marks passion for boats and by witnessing public demand. Now he is diversifying.
“Three years ago I bought eight sit on kayaks with the idea of giving visitors to St Mawes an opportunity to get out on the water and see the beauty of the resort from the sea.
“This simple idea became so popular, the idea of the rib trips and water taxi became a natural progression.”
Built to his own specifications, his XS RIB known as Paramour, can carry eight passengers and will be launched this week, March 6,for sea trials, coming into full operation from April.
“I’m not in the business of thrill rides,” he said. “But there will be a decent turn of speed from the 115 HP engine. There is a real demand for an out of hours water taxi service getting tourists and locals alike out on the water and where they want to go with beautiful scenery and without traffic queues.”
For the future Mark is optimistic and expansion seems a realistic part of St Mawes Sit-on Kayaks future.
“This is my fourth season and I am constantly amazed as to its success as the years go by. I have once again recruited help to meet demand during the busy summer months and I really hope that the growth of the business will enrich the local economy as well as offering some inspiration to other small businesses to whom a simple idea seems beyond success.”
