Mylor parish councillors have given the thumbs up to plans to develop Mylor Yacht Harbour to Olympic standard.
The plans submitted by owner Roger Graffy, which includes a two-storey clubhouse, complete with café and wind-sports centre was approved in principle at a meeting on Monday.
Concersn were raised about parking problems on Penharrow Road and councillors agreed to investigate whether double yellow line could be painted to offset any problems caused by the expansion Last month chairman Tony Andrew described the plans as “first class” after councillors heard a presentation from Mr Graffy.
Mr Graffy hopes to start work in September to ensure the new facilities were completed by the following Easter so that Olympic sailors could use them in training for 2012. It is hoped the likes of the New Zealand, France or Germany team could make Mylor their base.
The new clubhouse will have a snug for relaxing in and a chart room for training and committee meetings. It also play host to community events, including a pantomime.
The existing clubhouse will stand alongside the new building, so that there are facilities available for lots of people, but the old building is expected to be knocked down in November 2012.
