Falmouth company build Devon ferry

The Higher Ferry crew of the new Dartmouth – Kingswear Higher Ferry built by Pendennis Shipyard, Falmouth, welcomed children, adults and even pet dogs for a look around the inner workings of the £4m vessel.

Before the new Dartmouth Higher Ferry began working in full operation its engine rooms, bull wheels, and the bridge (where the ferry is driven) were opened up to the public for the first and last time.

Kerry Southern, Dartmouth Higher Ferry Manager said: ‘We were delighted with the support shown when the new ferry arrived on 15th June and so we decided to hold an Open Day to give people an opportunity to learn more about the ferry. We estimate that around 1,000 people came on board to have a peek at the hidden parts of the ferry and their enthusiasm was really appreciated.”

Stoke Fleming School, St John the Baptist school and Dartmouth Primary School and Nursery visited the ferry and the ferry crew, plus the engineers from Pendennis, the Superyacht builders in Falmouth were on hand all day to answer any questions.
