A senior tutor at Falmouth Marine School has been commended for her consistently positive impact on the lives of learners and colleagues by receiving the highly coveted Lifetime Achievement Award at a Cornwall College awards ceremony.
Other lecturers and support staff from across the seven Cornwall College sites, including Duchy College and Falmouth Marine School, have also been recognised for their achievements at the Staff Star Awards. The annual event celebrates the outstanding contribution to teaching and learning that staff have made over the last academic year and throughout their careers.
Tricia Noble was nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award for her encouragement, support and positive attitude in helping students complete and achieve their goals throughout her long career at Falmouth. In her citation, guests were told that "her enthusiasm, energy and zest for life are both boundless and infectious".
Tim Fitter, Marine Science student and next year's Students' Union chairperson at Falmouth, said: “Tricia is seen by students as a fixer of problems, she is always the first port of call if students have any issues either in or out of college life. Her door is always open and her attitude constantly positive.”
The glitzy awards ceremony, which took place at the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay, saw a total of 13 awards being presented for those in teaching, business support and leadership roles, including a Life Achievement award. Winners received an engraved crystal star trophy and certificate. Runners-up were presented with commemorative pens.
The award for Most Outstanding Team went to the IT Services Department who work at all campuses across Cornwall, including Falmouth, for their hard work and dedication to providing a quality service for students and staff.
The awards were presented by Steve Burgess, Cornwall College Human Resources Director, and Sally Butler, Head of Marketing. Special guests included Gillian Dyer, Head of Communications for the Learning and Skills Improvement Service; David Heritage, Partnership Manager for the Learning and Skills Council; and Leah Brewer, Person Development Manager at the Eden Project.
