Mylor Blind at Sea get special outing

Sailors from Mylor Harbour based group Blind at Sea got an opportunity to sail a Bristol Pilot Cutter on their last outing.

The visually impaired group who also take part in fishing and gig-rowing activities with sighted people during the summer, got to go on Marian, one of only 14 Bristol Pilot Cutters left in service and based at Mylor, and met skipper John Gyl-Murray.

The boat was originally built in 1889 and was specifically designed for speed.

Hermione Morris, who accompanies Jake from Helston with his sailing, said: “This was a special treat for the club and a good time was had by all.

“Jake sails a lot and I normally team up with him, we really enjoyed the treat.”

Blind at Sea are always looking for either new members or people to assist them on the water or lend their yachts out to keep the members sailing.
