Porthpean Sailing Club to host the RS800 National Championships
Porthpean Sailing Club has been selected by the RS800 Dinghy Class Association to host their National Championships from August 24 to August 29, 2008.
The RS800 is a twin trapeze, 3-sail boat, normally raced with a crew of two.
During its development the designers tested the boundaries in many elements of small boat design. The result is a boat that delivers the kind of performance most sailboat racers dream about.
Yet, by minimising weight and drag, the RS800 is powered to astonishing speeds using a relatively small rig that is light and remarkably easy to handle.
Porthpean Sailing club has a well-deserved reputation, both for Cornish hospitality and for expertise in running major events. The club has hosted 17 national championships since 1979, and in 1992 hosted the World Enterprise Championships. The RS800 Nationals are expected to bring well over 200 visitors into the St Austell area.
