Falmouth DD rowers race towards £1,000
Six ladies with a very special mission in mind at the World Pilot Gig championships are the Falmouth DD crew, Alison Trickey, Debbie Maxted, Emma Vyvyan, Caroline Heard, Rose Ross and Lucy Wilson, who are racing to raise £1,000 for the Breast Cancer Campaign. To date they have raised over £800. They will be racing in pink T shirts which has what is being described as an interesting logo!
The idea to raise money for the cancer charity and form the DD crew came from Alison Trickey who once rowed for Falmouth and represented Britain at the Sydney Olympics.
Alison's mother Falmouth Club member Carolyn Trickey, a world, county and veterans gig racing champion was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.
Carolyn attended the last World championships winning her gold medal in the veteran's crew before coming home to embark on her cancer treatment programme.
Alison Trickey said: "We'll do the hard racing to celebrate mum's achievements in battling the cancer and to raise awareness of Breast Cancer research. We wish to ensure everyone gets the excellent diagnosis and treatment my mum received and do our bit to protect our assets!"
The DD team have the experience and expertise to do well. Emma Vyvyan won her Blue at Cambridge University in the varsity boat race. Caroline Heard, Rose Ross and Debbie Maxted, are all highly experienced rowers and winners in the world, county and veterans championships. Lucy Wilson is an enthusiastic newcomer to the sport.
