VALKYRIE was the comfortable winner in the PY section of Helford River Sailing Club’s meet on Wednesday, as only two boats took part with much of the fleet away at Fowey Regatta.
Race officer, John Jane, chose a course which gave the yachts a three-mile spinnaker run out into Falmouth Bay, to take advantage of a good breeze from the West. Conditions suited Valkyrie, and Kudu was not helped by aspinnaker shackle coming undone on the leg to the Rosemullion mark.
In the IRC section Jacobi was first to round the windward mark off Trebah Beach, a lead which she retained throughout the race. Orijin was never far behind, closing the gap when Jacobi’s lazy genoa sheet followed the spinnaker down the forehatch at the Eastern mark. General Khaos came third and Zoom Baby fourth.
